Cavern diving is conducted in the entrance zone of the cave or cave system. The characteristics and conditions of a cavern dive are the following:
- 100+ metres visibility in fresh water
- entrance sunlight within visibility
- max. depth 15 metres
- constant water temperature of 24-25 °C
- no current, no waves
- huge, spacious passages
- weather doesn't have any impact on these dives
Divers, holding beginner level (open- water diver or similar) certifications, with at least 10 dives logged, can participate in the our guided cavern dives in the cenotes.
The dive will be conducted in small groups (max. 4 divers per guide). It shall be supervised by instructors qualified for cave diving using full cave diving gear.
The divers use the usual open-water gear and a torch. Before the dive, detailed briefing will be given about all the necessary details.
It is important that the divers have good bouyancy controll. Uncontrolled movement of an inexperienced diver can lead to stirring of the sediment and to the breakage of formations!
The cavern diving tour is a full 1-day programme, consisting of two dives in two different cenotes or in the different parts of one cenote.
The divers are taken from their accommodation in an air- conditioned van to the diving site at a 1-1,5 hour distance. The divers are offered sandwiches and cold soft drinks between the dives.
We return to the hotel at around 4 o’clock in the afternoon.
